Captains Comments

1. Specific detailed arrangements for all programmed events will be posted on the club noticeboard at least 14 days prior to each event. Briefings for all events will be held in the club at 2130 on the day before it starts.

2. Although most events incorporate a competitive element this aspect of them is neither compulsory nor their main purpose. Events are designed to be fun and to provide an opportunity for members to cruise in company with others and, for those who are not familiar with the cruising area, to enjoy the added security of exploring the local area with those who are familiar with their navigational quirks.

3. All members who are planning to cruise outside of the programmed events are encouraged to post their plans on both the club noticeboard and the website so that others who are sailing in the same time period can possibly join in with your own plans.

Notes for Skippers

• All events are weather dependent but if adverse conditions are forecast, an alternative cruise or race will be planned wherever possible. Details will be discussed at the briefing.

• High water times are B.S.T.

• To safeguard the interests of members, it is the sole responsibility of every skipper to ensure that their boat has adequate insurance for events. Please remember that you the skipper, are responsible for ensuring that your boat has adequate safety equipment and it will be your decision as to whether you and your crew are competent to undertake the voyage in the prevailing weather conditions.

• It shall be the skippers sole responsibility to decide whether to start or continue an event.

Club Races

• Yachts participating in any Club races will adhere to the international Regulation for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea.

• Competing yachts may use their engines until the warning signal is made (5minute ‘gun’). Special rules regarding the use of engines during parts of some races e.g. the Swellies section of the Round Anglesey Race will be made known to competitors prior to the event.

• Handicaps will be based on the Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme.
