Viva Cruising Photos

These are some of the photos Caroline took on the way round Anglesey last week - of Harlequin, Criselda, Promises, Night Song, Tsunami and Odyssey. The gentle sailing on Saturday round to Holyhead gave way to F5/6 on Sunday, but from the shore so the sea was not rough. Once round the Stacks the fleet anchored for a hurried breakfast in Silversand Bay and then on to Caernarfon Bar. Odyssey set off earlier than they intended when the F6 and tide lifted their anchor - see the excellent video. Criselda fixed a broken impellor on the way to the bar, under sail, showing magnificent practicality, and we all had to fight the tide in through Abermenai because of that breakfast stop. A good Chinese meal for most of us - we were too many for the Black Boy Inn - and then a visit to Caernarfon Sailing Club rounded off the evening. Next day brought the spectacle of several vessels grounding in the marina as they tried in vain to leave Victoria Dock when the gate opened. We left last in the fleet, having been rafted up hard on the mud all morning. But there was time enough to make the Swellies slack and on through the Swatch and home. Altogether an excellent weekend in splendid company - it was good to share the trip with Criselda, Night Song and Tsunami (and Nomad and Ayesha too) sailing with NWCC for the first time.
